Modi rakes up Emergency, says Congress bothers about Gandhi family but BJP wants to save the nation
Hitting out directly at the Gandhi family, PM Modi accused the Congress of being "desperate as it wants power to remain concentrated with one family".

With the Monsoon Session of Parliament witnessing a complete washout due to continued protests by the opposition parties, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday equated the attitude of the Congress party with that during the Emergency days.

Hitting out directly at the Gandhi family, PM Modi accused the Congress of being "desperate as it wants power to remain concentrated with one family".

"The Congress wants to save the (Gandhi) family, BJP wants to save the nation," said the Prime Minister while addressing the MPs of the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

Reacting to the remark by PM Modi, Congress leader Manish Tewari said that the PM must remember that "it is the responsibility of the government to run the House".

"If the House did not run, Prime Minister is responsible for the same. He did not even have the courage to face the opposition on the floor of the House," said Tewari.

He blamed the Prime Minister for resorting to "rhetoric to justify his failure in running the House during Monsoon Session".

This came after both Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha were on Thursday adjourned sine die as the Monsoon Session of Parliament ended without any business.
