Lucknow: Hours after announcing a peace formula, Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Saturday launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav saying his advice cost the party heavily in the 2014 general elections.

In an off-camera interaction with party workers at the party headquarters in Lucknow, Mulayam compared Akhilesh unfavourably with Shivpal Yadav, the SP patriarch's younger brother who was engaged in a political power tussle with the CM.

It is also an answer to the supporters of Akhilesh who had reached the party office demanding that the UP CM be also reinstated as party state president.

Mulayam even went to the extent of saying Akhilesh cost him the prime minister's chair as the SP under him won just five seats when it "could have won 30-35 seats".

He also said Akhilesh should remember that he was accepted as Chief Minister as he was his son and that he never had his own standing in politics.

The party supremo, while trying to strike a balance between the warring factions in his party, strongly said that old guards like Shivpal Yadav were indispensable to the organisation.

Mulayam Singh Yadav's words were seen as an indication that the truce reached in the Yadav family over the weekend is an uneasy one.

What's your reaction?
