Bangalore: The Congress candidate from Bangalore South and IT pioneer Nandan Nilekani has launched an all out war on his BJP opponent and sitting MP Ananth Kumar.
Nilekani, who is the richest candidate in the entire country with declared assets worth Rs.7710 Crore, has taken to social media to attack his rival and challenge him for an online or verbal duel. He is posting blogs, updating Facebook and writing blogs criticizing Ananth Kumar. He has posted several questions challenging Ananth Kumar to give him a satisfactory answer. He is calling him an absentee MP and demanding answers. However, Ananth Kumar does not seem to be worried about all these things. He has decided not to respond to Nilekani's barbs. Nilekani supporters are calling Ananth Kumar an escapist, who actually has no answers to Nilekani's questions.
Nilekani posted an update on his Facebook which said "16 hours in, the incumbent MP and BJP candidate has no answers to the challenge I posted. This is similar to what has happened throughout the campaign. While the other #Bengaluru South candidates and I have discussed our agenda, he has refused to provide any specifics".
His tweets said "My first challenge to Bengaluru South's absentee MP: 'What will you put in place to make yourself more accessible?'Today, I discussed one of my core promises during my campaign in Bangalore University. I talked about my plan to make it easy for people to reach their MP.
In his latest blog, Nilekani writes "My promise is that I will start a 24/7 helpline, which will guarantee a first response to the caller within 48 hours.
I will have regular citizen meetings, where there is a public review and discussion of the city's performance. I believe transparency and easy access gives citizens a lot of power.
One of things I hear constantly from voters across Bengaluru South, is that Ananth Kumar is the "absentee MP". He comes to the constituency only when elections are happening. I will change that and I will be accessible to anyone who wants to contact me, so that people's concerns are not ignored like they are today.
I challenge the incumbent MP of Bengaluru South today.
Despite being a low performer in Parliament, ranking 139th, he has not told citizens how he would improve or be more accessible in the next five years. He is making the same old promises he made five years ago. Instead of making any real commitments, my opponent hides behind national leaders".
