Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and MLA Nitesh Rane hit out at Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray for allegedly planning to meet a party office-bearer accused of harassing a woman. Sena UBT leader Sanjay Raut, meanwhile, asked the Ranes to “introspect”.
Rane said the issue involves a shakha pramukh (unit head) of Shiv Sena UBT. “Amol Sansare is a Shakha Pramukh of ward number 106. A woman has filed a First Information Report (FIR) against him. She has accused him of harassing her for property on the pretext of marriage. Currently, he is out on bail,” Rane alleged. “It seems Aaditya Thackeray is planning to visit him. Against this background, does it mean that Sansare enjoys the unwritten support of Thackeray for the wrongs he has done to the woman?”
Rane further said that Thackeray’s shield for such a person may boost the confidence of such accused and lead to repeat offences.
His father and Union minister Narayan Rane also recently criticised the Thackerays for their alleged involvement in contracts given out by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) during the Covid period. Without naming Uddhav Thackeray and his son Aaditya, the minister said those behind “the scams during the Covid period will soon be in jail”. “I have all information about the people, what they do and where they stay. Apart from agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), I have my parallel system due to which I know the whereabouts of such people. I keep very close watch on them,” he said.
Responding to the allegations, Raut said, “Our alliance government will be established in the next two months. The cases that the ED and CBI have closed for the time being will be reopened and you will see the culprits in Tihar or some other jail. Those who are making unnecessary noise should introspect.”
