New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee President Rita Bahuguna Joshi will be party's candidate for the Lucknow Lok Sabha seat.
Joshi is the daughter of late Uttar Pradesh chief minister HN Bahuguna.
She will be up against the Samajwadi Party's Nafisa Ali and Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Lalji Tandon, an MLA from Lucknow West.
Ironically, the Congress had earlier considered fielding Nafisa Ali from Lucknow before she was joined the Samajwadi Party.
Samajwadi Party named Ali as its candidate after the Supreme Court disallowed Sanjay Dutt, who was SP's original choice, from contesting elections due to his conviction in a 1993 Mumbai bomb blast case.
Congress had earlier said that it would not field a candidate against Dutt from Lucknow. Later, however, when it became clear that Dutt would not be able to contest, the party decided to field a candidate from the seat.
