On Saturday, at least 30 Delhi BJP leaders assembled in Rajasthan’s Ranthambore along with functionaries of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to discuss the state unit’s strategy to come back to power after 26 years in the national capital.
Three things will be in focus in the meeting, say sources: BJP’s election strategy, deciding a face against Arvind Kejriwal and how to rejuvenate the cadres of the Delhi unit of the BJP. All sitting Members of Parliament of Delhi BJP as well as sitting MLAs from the party that come from the national capital are a part of the meeting.
BJP General Secretary (Organisation) BL Santhosh has also taken part in the meeting, indicating its seriousness.
Sources said there will be two meetings, with the second kept under wraps and expected to be attended by a smaller group of BJP leaders and Sangh functionaries.
“We are here to discuss (about party matters) with a cool mind, an open mind… it has been a ritual of the BJP (to hold such meetings). We were planning to come to Ranthambore for a long time. Today, we have been able to make it,” said former Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari, playing down the significance of the dual meetings.
Sources say one of the core issues will be to discuss who will be BJP’s face chief minister face against Kejriwal in the next Delhi election which is expected to be held around January or February 2025. Sources also say both the BJP and Sangh are of the opinion that going to elections without a state face has cost the party in the recent past.
In the last assembly election held in 2020, BJP managed to win just eight seats out of 70 as the Aam Aadmi Party swept with 62.
