Sibal meets Mamata, evades question on president poll
The meeting came a day after the Congress renewed its appeal to the Trinamool Congress to support Pranab Mukherjee's candidature.

Kolkata: Apparently in a bid to bring Trinamool Congress, a key UPA ally, on board on the presidential poll issue, Congress leader and Union Minister Kapil Sibal on Thursday met the party chief Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata.

"I am always happy to talk to her. This time also I am happy," Sibal told reporters after his meeting with the West Bengal Chief Minister at the state secretariat.

He, however, evaded questions on whether the presidential elections were discussed in the meeting which took place for over half-an-hour.

AICC general secretary in-charge of West Bengal, Shakeel Ahmed, had on Wednesday renewed the appeal to the Trinamool Congress to support the candidature of UPA nominee Pranab Mukherjee in the presidential poll.

Banerjee had earlier said a final decision on the presidential elections would be taken three days before the polling date on July 19.
