Telangana fallout: Chiranjeevi quits, Pallam Raju offers to resign
Textile Minister KS Rao also voiced his dissent and protested the Cabinet decision to form a separate state of Telangana.

New Delhi: Hours after the Cabinet approved the formation of Telangana, Tourism Minister K Chiranjeevi on Thursday resigned following the announcement. Chiranjeevi, who hails from coastal Andhra region, protested against the Cabinet's decision.

Soon after the Cabinet took a decision on the formation of Telangana, protest erupted in the Congress party with Human Resources Development Minister Pallam Raju likely to resign, said sources.

Sources close to Raju said he made the offer to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who, however, asked him to continue.

Raju, a senior leader from Seemandhra region, is understood to have conveyed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that he was "very unhappy" as the decision to carve Telangana out of Andhra Pradesh has been taken "ignoring" the senitments of a large number of people and hence he does not want to continue in government any more, sources close to the HRD minister said.

Textile Minister KS Rao also voiced his dissent and protested the Cabinet decision to form a separate state of Telangana.

Seemandhra MPs and ministers to meet at KS Rao's residence.

The Cabinet approved the decision to divide Andhra Pradesh and form Telangana. Hyderabad is made the joint capital of Telangana and Seemandhra for 10 years and after that Seemandhra will have to establish its own capital.

Even while the meeting was underway at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's residence, anti-Telangana protesters broke a barricade outside the residence.
