Chennai: DMK president and former Tamil Naddu chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Tuesday moved a court in Chennai seeking action against a Tamil daily, its editor and publisher for its comments relating to Anna Centenary Library, which were allegedly defamatory.
In a petition filed before Chief Metropolitan Magistgrate R KIllivalavan, TKS Elangovan, MP, who represented Karunanidhi, said the paper in its November four issue had carried an editorial using "defamatory and derogatory language" against Karunanidhi regarding the library.
The library building was conceived, designed and built under the direct supervision of the state Public Works Department, through open tender, the petitioner claimed, adding that the accusation against him was 'false and defamatory'.
The matter has been adjourned to November 15.
Tamil Nadu government had last week announced its decision to abandon the library, a pet project of Karunanidhi, and convert it into a super-speciality paediatric hospital.
