UP Panchayat Elections: Final list of Reservation to Be Released by March 27
There is a possibility of the announcement of elections in the state within a week of the release of the reservation list by March 27.

The final reservation list for the UP Panchayat Elections for all the posts is expected to be released by 27th March 2021, meanwhile, the list of district panchayat presidents has been released. In such a situation, the State Election Commission can announce the election soon after the release of the reservation list.

The State Election Commission is going to do video conferencing with all the District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police from 1:00 pm on Thursday afternoon. Preparations for elections in all districts will be reviewed through video conferencing. Besides the State Election Commissioner, other officers of the Commission will also be present during the meeting.

According to the new government order, the reservation will be done in 75 posts of District Panchayat President, 826 posts of Block Heads, and 58194 posts of Village Heads. District Panchayat presidents, blockheads, and village heads in the state include ST, SC and the number of posts to be reserved for OBCs will be calculated in proportion to their population in the state. Seats in the panchayats will be reserved according to the reservation of 33 percent for women, 27 percent for OBC, 23 percent for ST and SC.

The order states that the seats for the posts of district panchayat president, blockhead, the village head and village, area, and district panchayat members which were reserved for elections in the year 2015 will not be reserved for that class again. Also, the woman’s seat will be allotted in those area panchayats which were not allotted in the women category in the 2015 panchayat elections.

The State Election Commission will also review the special preparations there. According to the instructions given by the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court, the panchayat elections need to be completed by 25th May.

Meanwhile, UP board examinations are also to be held from 24th April. In such a situation, arranging resources in front of the District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police remains a major challenge. That is why the State Election Commission is taking stock of preparations before the announcement of elections.
