New Delhi: The UPA has enumerated several projects it had sanctioned during 2011-12 through Jawahar Lal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) and other schemes as the highlights of its endeavours in developing Urban India.
"Twenty Seven projects have been approved during the year at an approved cost of Rs 2069.48 crore and Additional Central Assistance (ACA) commitment of Rs 955.31 crore under the Urban Infrastructure and Governance component of Jawahar Lal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission," the government said in its Report To The People, 2011-12.
It said that 45 projects had also been approved during the year at a cost of Rs 1102 crore under the Urban infrastructure Development Scheme for Small and Medium Towns.
The government also said that it had created more than 22 lakh houses, covering 1606 projects with an outlay of Rs 42, 397 crore.
The UPA also pointed that it had added 5.88 kilometres to the Metro line in Delhi and also sanctioned projects for its extension to Faridabad.
The government said besides carrying on the work on the ongoing projects in Banagalore, Chennai, Kolkata and Mumbai, a new Metro project had been taken up in Hyderabad.
The government also said it had sanctioned 15, 260 modern buses in 61 cities under JNNURM.
The UPA also said it had launched in June 2011, a new scheme named Rajiv Awas Yojana which provides financial assistance to states that are willing to assign property rights to slum dwellers for provision of decent shelter and social services for slum redevelopment.
The government said it had already released funds to 162 cities under the scheme. The UPA government also highlighted that it had created a Credit Risk Guarantee Fund to catalyse flow of credit into Low Income housing sector.
In its report to the people on completion of three years in office, the government also claimed to have catapulted the services of the Private sector through 70 Public Private Partnership projects in sectors like Solid Waste Management, Sewerage and Water Supply and also Urban Transport.
