Kolkata: The CPI(M) state leadership was on Saturday busy finalising the list of candidates for the forthcoming West Bengal Assembly polls, which would be officially announced on Sunday.
CPI(M) stalwarts, including Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, party state secretary Biman Bose, besides senior members like Suryakanta Mishra, Nirupam Sen, Gautam Deb and others attended the two-day state Committee meeting here
on Saturday to shape to the CPI(M) candidates' list.
The state secretariat had met here on Friday to discuss the issue of candidates.
The Left Front partners will meet hereon Sunday shortly after the end of the CPI(M) state committee meeting for giving final approval to the list of Assembly candidates.
CPI(M) sources said there was no "problem" in the finalisation of the party candidates, and expressed hope that the Left Front list would be announced "without any hitch" among the partners.
"The entire process is as smooth as ever," they said. The Assembly elections in West Bengal will be held in six phases starting April 18.
