Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal was released in December last year and became an instant hit at the box office. Animal became one of the highest-grossing films of 2023 and now, even nearly 40 days after its release, Ranbir Kapoor’s fans are still flocking to the theatres to watch the high-action film. The actor was praised by many for his impeccable acting skills despite the criticism against the themes and character sketches of the film. Now, Manoj Muntashir who served as the lyricist for one of the songs compared Ranbir with the legend Rajesh Khanna by discussing a similarity they share.
Speaking at PinkVilla’s roundtable, Manoj Muntashir emphasised that Ranbir not only conveys a lot with his emotive eyes but also with other mannerisms, “sirf aankho se nahi kiya hai, I think wo jab lip-sync kar rahe hote hain to aapko unke gale ke veins dikh jate hai…wo kaise kar lete hai, unko music ka knowledge hai mujhe nahi pata. But shayad Rajesh Khanna ke baad agar koi actor itne achese se gaane carry karta hai apne upar to wo Ranbir Kapoor hai. (He doesn’t emote only with his eyes. When he is lip-syncing any song we can see the veins on his neck. How he does that, I don’t know. But if there is any actor after Rajesh Khanna who can carry a song so beautifully, it has to be Ranbir Kapoor.)”
Meanwhile, Ranbir Kapoor reacted to the criticism his film Animal received following its release. The film released last month and was accused of glorifying misogyny and toxic masculinity. The film was slammed by a section of social media, with Javed Akhtar also criticising the film. Ranbir addressed the criticism during the success party of Animal and said that love for the film and box office success of the film has conquered everything.
Animal has done a phenomenal business at the box office. The film has recorded a worldwide box office collection of Rs 904.93 cr, as per Bollywood Hungama. Ranbir spoke about the success of the film and mentioned the criticism. “I want to thank all of you for being here today to celebrate Animal. It is a film that a section of people had an issue with but I feel the kind of love, success and the numbers (it has received) proves that nothing goes beyond the love for a movie. Nothing goes beyond movies,” Ranbir said, as reported by PTI.
Sandeep addressed the criticism in several interviews as well. Speaking with Connect FM Canada in December, Sandeep said, “All these critics should go to China. You know the most happening thing in China is English tuition. They are good with English so that they could go and tutor there. Other than new English words in their reviews, you don’t find anything else.”
He added that the criticism is affecting the film’s box office. “Despite giving elaborate explanations (post the release of Kabir Singh), they don’t even try to analyse the film. They talk about only two or three things. After Animal, I realized that it would be there for all my films. It’s alright. The criticism will intensify even more for Spirit and Animal Park,” he added.
Meanwhile, Ranbir and Sandeep are set to reunite for Animal’s sequel, titled Animal Park.
