The first Apple-developed app made specifically for Android is designed to help users move data over to Cupertino's ecosystem.

As well as transferring over contacts, messaging history, photos, bookmarks, email accounts and calendars via a private WiFi link, "Move to iOS" also searches the App Store for equivalents to installed Android apps.

Free apps will be downloaded automatically while paid apps are added to an iTunes Wish List, notes Apple Insider.

"Move to iOS" has polarised the opinion of reviewers on the Google Play store.

With 15,893 users rating (at the time of filing the story) given since its September 16 launch, over 80 per cent of "Move to iOS" users opted for one out of five stars, while 17 per cent awarded it top marks.

Among reasons offered by disgruntled Android users were the lack of first-party Apple apps on Google Play (as opposed to Google's approach to the App Store), the Apple app's rejection of Google's Material Design standard, and the App Store's walled garden approach that makes a "Move to Android" for iOS an unlikelihood.

A second Android app, Apple Music, will be launched later in the year when Apple's service replaces the legacy Beats Music.
