New Delhi: BlackBerry has announced the launch of its recently-announced mid-range smartphone - Leap - for the Indian market. The phone, however, will be available in the country from June.

The price of the device in India will be announced closer to the launch, says BlackBerry. In the US, it is priced around $275 (Rs 17,600).

The BlackBerry Leap features a 5-inch (1280x720) touchscreen, 8-megapixel camera, and 16 GB of internal storage. It supports a microSD card support of up to 128GB.

The phone was unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona early March.

BlackBerry, once a must-have device for business executives and government officials because of its pioneering secure email service, has haemorrhaged market share to Apple's iPhone and rivals running on Google's Android software.

In a bid to remain relevant, the company has pivoted in the last year to focus much more on its software business and core strengths such as data security. However, the company has stressed it remains committed to its devices business.
