China has achieved a series of major breakthroughs in core electronic devices, high-end universal chips and basic software products in the past decade. China's Ministry of Science and Technology, together with Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, held a joint press conference to release relevant achievements in Beijing on Monday.
After ten years of research, the gap between China and leading countries in the main technology parameters of core electronic devices has narrowed down to 5 years from 15 years. Independent support rate of core electronic devices used for supportive equipment has gone up from less than 30 percent to above 85 percent.
Chinese new supercomputer, Sunway TaihuLight, won four consecutive championships among world top 500 supercomputers, fully achieved the localization and independent development of both software and hardware, with its CPU peak computing speed having reached three trillion times and key technology a leading level in the world.

The property of home-made CPUs such as Phytium and Loongson has also improved greatly. These CPUs have been widely applied in key industries including electricity, civil aviation, and transportation. "The breakthroughs and innovations made in recent years in the integrated circuit products are mostly backed by our programs related to core electronic devices, high-end universal chips and basic software products. We say that these programs have made undeniable contributions to the development of our country's integrated circuit products, which can never be overrated," said Wei Shaojun, director of the Institute of Microelectronics at Tsinghua University.
Despite the satisfying achievements, the technology gap is still there, Wang added. He said the sustainable development and team building are still two factors for them to work on in the long run.
