New Delhi: Taking display innovation to another level, South Korea’s LG Display has unveiled an extremely thin OLED panel that can stick to a wall.
The 55-inch detachable OLED panel is only 0.97mm thick, weighs 1.9kg and can easily be stuck to a wall with a magnetic mat. The wallpaper-like TV is slimmer than LG Display’s existing flagship 55-inch OLED panel that is 4.3mm thick.
Putting more focus on the production of OLEDs, LG Display also unveiled a convex OLED panel that is mainly used for digital signage for large-scale outdoor advertising, a Yonhap release notes.
A wallpaper OLED panel will help make a TV much slimmer and lighter since it emits light itself based on the electric current without a backlight unit, unlike an LCD.
LG Display plans to introduce an OLED panel as big as 99 inches within this year, Yeo Sang-deog, the head of LG Display's OLED division said. The company has released its 55-inch, 66-inch and 77-inch OLED models earlier in the year.
Yeo said that the company will continue to upgrade its plastic OLED technology including transparent displays and rollable or flexible displays to be used for wearable devices or vehicle dashboards.
