New Delhi: Pebble Technology's latest wearable gadget, Pebble Time, has smashed the Kickstarter record for being the most-funded campaign on site. The smartwatch, announced on February 24, has raised $20,336,930 from 78,463 people following its month-long campaign on the crowd-funding platform.
The campaign, that ended on Friday, saw the Pebble project shatter two records. The first being the very day when it was listed on the site and garnered more than a million dollars within an hour, precisely 49 minutes.
It is Pebble's second smartwatch and also the startup's second project on Kickstarter.
A report on CNN Money noted that a week after getting listed on the site, Pebble Time became the most-funded campaign in Kickstarter's history by receiving more than $13.3 million in pledges.
Pebble had announced its initial goal of raising $500,000. However, the startup has surpassed its own goal and will be selling the smartwatch for $159 to the early backers and for $199 when it hits the market.
The company broke Kickstarter's record for the most-funded project ever in 2012 when it had launched its first smartwatch, the original Pebble Watch. Back then, the startup had aimed for an easy target of $100,000, but garnered above $10 million from 69,000 people.
The Pebble Time features a timeline and microphone for voice replies to notifications. It sports an e-paper-like display with improved backlight and water-resistant quality. The customisable Pebble Time will start shipping in May to early backers.
