Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has unveiled two new smartphones Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus in China. Both the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus carry an 18:9 display with narrow bezels and come with the same design language in four colour options- Gold, Black, Rose Gold and Light Blue. Though the Redmi 5 series comes at affordable prices but managed to have 18:9 display screen ratio.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5 has been priced at CNY 799 (Rs 7,800) for the 2GB/16GB variant and CNY 899 (Rs. 8,800) for the 3GB/32GB variant. For Redmi 5 Plus the 3GB/32GB will be available at CNY 999 (around Rs 9,800), and the 4GB/64GB will be available for CNY 1,299 (around Rs 12,700), which makes these devices as the cheapest 18:9 resolution smartphones currently available in India.
In terms of specifications Redmi 5 sports 5.7-inch HD+ (1440x720p) with 2.5D curved glass screen with18:9 aspect ratio and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 octa-core processor. The phone comes with a 2+1 card slot that supports simultaneous use of two 4G nano-SIM cards and a microSD card up to 128GB. Redmi 5A houses a 3000mAh long-lasting battery and comes equipped with a 12-megapixel rear camera with Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF) and a f/2.2 aperture. At the front, there is a 5-megapixel selfie shooter. The lower storage variant carries a 2GB RAM and a 16GB internal storage.
On the other hand, Redmi 5Plus carries 5.99-inch full HD+ (2160x1080p) with 2.5D curved glass screen with 18:9 aspect ratio same as Redmi 5. The device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core processors and houses 4,000mAh battery unlike Redmi 5 which backs 3,300mAH battery. Talking about optics the Redmi 5Plus sports a 12-megapixel rear camera with Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF) and a f/2.2 aperture. At the front, there is a 5-megapixel selfie shooter just like Redmi 5. On storage terms, the device packs 16GB/32GB + expandable up to 128GB via microSD.
Last week Xiaomi had added another offering to its budget segment smartphones - the Redmi 5A, at a starting price of Rs 4,999. The 5-inch Redmi 5A comes with a metallic matte finish and features a dedicated microSD card slot for storage expansion. Xiaomi also claims that the Redmi 5A will be able to offer up to 8 days of standby time. The successor to the Redmi 4A, Redmi 5A has been launched in two storage variants.
