Asus is also announcing its new flagship - the Zenfone 2 - for the Indian market today.

The event is being attended by the who's who of Xiaomi including Xiaomi CEO and founder, Lei Jun; president and co-founder Bin Lin and VP International, Hugo Barra.

Reports suggest that the Xiaomi Mi 4i could sport a 1.65GHz Snapdragon 615 octa-core 64-bit processor, 2 GB of RAM, and run on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop out-of-the-box.

The specs are similar to the earlier speculated 'Ferrari' smartphone. However, the Xiaomi Mi 4i could be a variant of the Mi 4 that boasts of 4.9-inch full HD display.

Xiaomi is making an aggressive pitch for the Indian market that it had entered in July last year. The company had been selling its devices online exclusively on Flipkart until April 8 when it announced its partnership with two new e-commerce platforms Snapdeal and Amazon.

To reach out to more consumers Xiaomi has also ventured into brick and mortar stores by partnering with retail chain The Mobile Store. It has also entered into a partnership with telecom operator Bharti Airtel.

On a related note, it has been noted that Xiaomi's media invite for the April 23 event in New Delhi has a similar style and design as Apple's Spring Forward event that took place on March 9.
