Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi, is being celebrated nationwide with great enthusiasm. Among those joining in the festivities is popular television actress Rupali Ganguly, famed for her role in the daily soap Anupamaa. Recently, she shared her profound devotion to God and her commitment to animal welfare.
Talking to ETimes, the actress shared her thoughts on the significance of Ganpati, highlighting the beauty of Sanatan Dharma and its inclusivity. “Who are we without the presence of God? We are nothing. Our Sanatan Dharma allows us to connect with God in any form we choose. I have a special connection with animals—whether it’s elephants, snakes, dogs, or cats. That’s the beauty of our religion. God can manifest in any form, whether it’s Goddess Lakshmi with her owl, Kartikey on a peacock, or Ganpati on a mouse. It teaches us compassion for animals,” Rupali said on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi.
The Anupamaa actress further talked about her religious beliefs, sharing that her spirituality is intertwined with her love for animals. Quoting a teaching of Sai Baba, Rupali added, “The biggest beauty of our religion is that whichever form of God we wish to worship, God is there in that form. Whether it’s Goddess Lakshmi, who lives on an owl, or Kartikey, who comes on a peacock, or Ganpati on a mouse. Our religion already teaches us that we should have compassion for animals. Sai Baba said, if you give your first roti to dog, then I will get roti. So please be kind to animals. For me, God is Dog spelt backwards. God is everything for me.”
Further, Rupali encouraged people to continue their acts of kindness towards humans and animals. “Whenever you celebrate—whether it’s your birthday, anniversary, or your child’s birthday—donate and do good as much as you can,” said the actress.
The Anupamaa actress shared a series of pictures on her Instagram account, offering a sneak peek into her Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. Rupali, who looked resplendent in a red Nauvari saree, wrote, “Ganesh Chaturthi ki Hardik Shubhkamnaen.”
Before portraying the titular character in the superhit serial Anupamaa, Rupali portrayed ‘Monisha’ in the popular sitcom Sarabhai vs Sarabhai. Apart from daily soaps, the 47-year-old actress has also participated in reality TV shows and has appeared in a handful of films.
