The Government of India’s official handle shared a stunning aerial video of Dhanushkodi’s final road in Tamil Nadu, capturing the scenic beauty of Arichal Munai.

India boasts a diverse landscape, rich heritage and culture, and varied flora and fauna. Among the vast expanse of beaches, Dhanushkodi, which is located on the southern tip of Pamban island in Tamil Nadu stands out. It is the last Indian town and a hidden natural beauty nestled in the South Indian whiskers.

Recently, the official handle of the Government of India (GoI) took to X (previously known as Twitter) and shared a video featuring the captivating aerial view of India’s last road in Dhanushkodi. The road to Arichal Munai, which is thought to be the last road in Southern India, is shown in this video, which was taken by Thirumala Sanchari.

“Behold the breathtaking beauty! Feast your eyes on the mesmerising view of India’s last road at Dhanushkodi, Tamil Nadu,” read the caption.

The video was shared on February 6 and so far, it has collected over 10,000 views. The scenic beauty in the video has enthralled viewers on social media. Several people responded overwhelmingly positively, with many expressing their awe at the breathtaking landscapes.

One user wrote, “It looks like a Magnificent Shivling! Har Har Mahadev!”

Another user suggested that “Vehicles should be banned except for small electric ones to preserve the area.”

Meanwhile, Thirumala Sanchari, a social media user, who captured the video thanked the government for the “support and recognition.”

Many also termed the video, “beautiful” and “breathtaking”.

Dhanushkodi: Interesting Facts About This Place

– Dhanushkodi is a significant location on the map because it is where the Bay of Bengal meets the Indian Ocean. The town is roughly 18 kilometres from Rameswaram.

– The town was once a thriving community complete with a railway station, post office, and other amenities. However, the town was destroyed by a catastrophic cyclone in 1964, and it is now known as a ghost town, according to Times of India.

– A powerful cyclone struck Dhanushkodi on December 22, 1964, wreaking havoc and destroying everything. The cyclone caused the Pamban-Dhanushkodi passenger train to sink, killing a large number of people.

– Following the cyclone, the government declared Dhanushkodi uninhabitable, and the town was abandoned.

– Dhanushkodi, located at the southernmost tip of Rameswaram Island, is commonly referred to as India’s Land’s End.

– According to Hindu mythology, it is the location where Lord Rama built a bridge (Rama Setu) to reach Sri Lanka and save his wife Sita from the demon king Ravana.

– Despite its status as a ghost town, Dhanushkodi attracts tourists who are interested in its historical and mythological significance. In addition, visitors can take guided tours of the town’s remnants.
