Elon Musk Says Oscars is a 'Woke Contest', Internet Feels 'He is Just Jealous'
Oscars 2024: Elon Musk calls Academy Awards a 'woke contest', gets mocked for being too jealous.

The 96th Academy Awards, once again helmed by Jimmy Kimmel, are in full throttle as Christopher Nolan’s 2023 biopic ‘Oppenheimer’ strides into the ceremony with an impressive 13 nominations. Yet, amidst the glitz and glamour, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk seems to be giving the event a cold shoulder on social media as over the weekend, Musk took to ‘X’, formerly Twitter, to air his grievances about Hollywood’s most extravagant affair.

In one of his tweets, the ‘X’ boss equated snagging an Oscar to clinching victory in “the woke contest.”

While according to the Cambridge Dictionary, “woke” simply denotes being “aware, especially of social problems such as racism and inequality,” Musk has previously suggested that “wokeness” seeks to outlaw “comedy.”

In the same thread, Musk remarked, “When an award is diluted, everyone knows, including those who received it, and it no longer commands respect.”

Soon, denizens of social media jumped in to tease Musk in the comments, with one user jesting, “You’re just upset you’ll never win one”. Another quipped, “Yet another thing you know nothing about, and that money can not buy.” “You should buy the Oscars and make them terrible probably cheaper than Twitter,” joked the third, while the fourth pondered, “You think if Oppenheimer wins it’s because it’s woke?”

Meanwhile, the buzz surrounding contenders like the brooding ‘Oppenheimer,’ the chilling ‘Anatomy of a Fall,’ and the vibrant ‘Barbie’ finally reached its crescendo as the 2024 Oscars transformed the aspirations of top contenders into glittering gold.

The night belonged to ‘Oppenheimer,’ clinching the coveted Best Picture trophy, with Christopher Nolan rightfully crowned Best Director, and Cillian Murphy’s stellar performance securing him the title of Best Actor. These three luminaries had been riding high on a wave of victories from prestigious precursor ceremonies, from the Golden Globes in January to the SAG Awards in February.

Other victors basking in the glow of sustained success over recent months include Da’Vine Joy Randolph, honoured as Best Supporting Actress for her role in ‘The Holdovers,’ and Robert Downey Jr., who triumphed as Best Supporting Actor for his contribution to ‘Oppenheimer.’

However, the night’s most unexpected twist saw Emma Stone, the leading lady of “Poor Things,” emerging victorious as Best Actress, reclaiming the spotlight despite being sidelined by the history-making Lily Gladstone from “Killers of the Flower Moon” after her SAG Award win in February.
