Poverty is a major problem in India. A shocking case of poverty emerged from Sagar in Madhya Pradesh. There is a family whose annual income is just Rs 2. The income certificate issued by the Tehsildar of the area has gone viral. This created a massive stir among the netizens. After the letter surfaced, people were left surprised. Many of them questioned how this family lives with an annual income of just Rs 2. Let us know about this shocking story in this article.

The income certificate belongs to Balram Chadhar from Ghoghra village in Banda Tehsil. It was issued in January 2024. Reporters from Local 18 reached the village to investigate the matter. While talking to one of the family members named Tizzu Chadhar, he said that there are five people in the family. Due to financial issues, the entire family works as labourers. Balram Chadhar is the youngest son of the family and is in the 12th grade. He had this certificate made to apply for a scholarship in order to continue his studies. When the scholarship was not issued he spoke about it to his teachers. Upon checking, he found out that the income amount was wrongly mentioned in the certificate.

While talking to the media personnel, Balram explained that he was issued the certificate by Common Service Centres where he reported an income of Rs 40,000 annually. Instead, Rs 2 were mentioned on the certificate. Shockingly, neither the person who handed over the certificate nor the Tehsildar, who signed it noticed the discrepancy.

According to reports, the officials who issued the certificate were transferred to another block. When he was asked about it, he mentioned that the certificate which mentioned Rs 2 as annual income was cancelled and another certificate with the current amount was issued.

According to an earlier report shared by Niti Aayog, the multidimensional poverty in India dipped from 29.17 percent in 2013-14 to 11.28 percent in 2022-23. Around 24.82 crore reportedly moved out of poverty during this period.
