Mumbai is grappling with intense rainfall, leaving the city streets submerged, causing traffic jams and making driving a challenge. And now a video of what looks like a fountain spontaneously erupting out of the middle of a congested Chandivali Farm Road in Powai has gone viral.
Shared on X (formerly Twitter) by user Jake Joss, the 35-second clip shows a powerful surge of water jetting up from the road’s surface. The dramatic footage shows vehicles carefully manoeuvring the unexpected fountain. As the camera pans out, the water is seen splashing across the road as cars, buses and autorickshaws navigate through the flooded mess.
The caption shared along with the video read, “#MumbaiRains always comes up with surprises like these. Fountain in the middle of #ChandivaliFarmRoad at #Powai.”

In response, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) clarified the situation, explaining the fountain-like gush was part of a routine maintenance procedure.
“Sir, for cleaning the water main pipeline, flushing of the water main pipeline was in progress. Thanks for interacting with us!” the official account of Ward-L of the BMC replied.
