Rs 45,000 Rent For This 1 BHK 'Chawl' In Mumbai? Internet In Shock
The 1 BHK apartment reportedly comes with a small living room and bedroom and a monthly rent of Rs 45,000.

Finding affordable rental homes in several Indian cities has become increasingly challenging due to rising living costs. Major cities like Mumbai, Bangalore, and Delhi attract numerous job seekers and companies, leading to heightened demand for housing. In Mumbai, often referred to as the “City of Dreams,” the combination of a burgeoning population and a booming economy has resulted in some of the highest rental costs in the country. Even small apartments are now priced significantly higher, making it difficult for many to find suitable housing within their budgets. This trend is exacerbated by the city’s status as a financial hub, housing major businesses and the stock exchange.

One example is a one-bedroom apartment that comes with a hefty price tag. Located in Matunga, the 1BHK apartment includes a small living room, a compact bedroom, and a kitchen. There is also a small staircase that leads up to a loft for extra storage space. And the rent is? Rs 45,000 per month.

An X user shared a screenshot of the apartment’s original video and mocked it over showing a ‘chawl’ in the name of 1BHK. “Purani chawl ko old school/old vibes bolkr 45k rent pr de rhe capitalism has commodified poverty to a next level,” the caption read.

Shared on Instagram, the video’s previous caption read, “Matunga East. Old vibe 1bhk on rent only 45k.”

Note: A chawl in Mumbai refers to small rooms in multi-story structures with narrow corridors where the apartments are lined up next to each other. The entire family usually lives in each single-room apartment.

The post went viral instantly, with many taking to the comment section and sharing their reactions. A user wrote, “House rent – 5k Teakwood aesthetics – 40k.”

Another asked, “45k for a common toilet shared by 200 others? Errr.”

A comment read, “This looks worse than some govt college Hostels tbh.”

The post came days after another unusual property caught the internet’s attention. An X user shared an eye-capturing image of a luxury 2BHK apartment in Mumbai’s Pali Hill neighbourhood. However, what left people talking was the very compact bathroom, where the washing machine was positioned just above the commode.

Guess the price? With a whopping monthly rent of Rs 1.35 lakh per month, the apartment also has a hefty security deposit of Rs 4 lakh. The post instantly became the focal point of online conversation, highlighting the challenges of urban living.
