Locals in the Safakadal area of Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, rescued a 7-year-old boy who slipped into the Jhelum River. A couple of residents jumped in and brought the child to the riverbank after they saw him floating with the current of the water. The tragedy was averted as he was saved from drowning and received prompt mouth-to-mouth cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
The video, which was shared by a local news agency on X (Formerly Twitter), depicts the complete scenes unfolding. The individual filming the video can be heard claiming that residents in the Chhatabal neighbourhood started screaming, alarming the people nearby.
Soon, a person leapt into the river and swam towards the floating child. When he caught hold of him, he took him to the riverbank, where a few others were waiting. People may be heard recommending giving the child CPR because he appeared to be alive.
The footage switches to a moment in which he is being carried by locals. The child is heard being questioned by the individual about his whereabouts and his overall well-being.

In another instance, a boat in the Pulwama area of Jammu and Kashmir overturned in a river, leaving two people missing and seven others rescued, Kashmir Observer reported. The two individuals who went missing were Uttar Pradesh residents.
Earlier, in April, a tragic incident occurred when a boat carrying kids and residents capsized in the River Jhelum, killing more than seven people and leaving scores missing.
The Kashmir Observer reports that on April 16, the boat carrying 26 people—including 15 schoolchildren—capsized in the Jhelum River near Gandbal, Batwara.
According to the news outlet, the boat’s cable suddenly snapped, sending it crashing into a pillar of a bridge that was still under construction in the middle of the Jhelum River.
