Watch: YouTuber’s Balloon-Powered GoPro Captures Incredible Earth Shots From ‘Near Space’
A YouTuber, who goes by the name BloonStu, launched a GoPro into near space by using a balloon to achieve an extraordinary vantage point.

Imagine sending a balloon carrying a GoPro so high that it captures the curvature of the Earth from the edge of space. That’s exactly what the YouTuber known as BloonStu achieved by launching a GoPro into “near space" using a high-altitude balloon. As it soared close to the edge of space, it captured stunning views of Earth. Known for its rugged durability and high-quality imagery, the GoPro is renowned for capturing every thrilling moment, but this experiment took it to an entirely new level. BloonStu’s balloon lifted the camera far above the clouds, transforming them into mere specks beneath.

As the GoPro ascended, it offered a breathtaking view of Earth from a perspective few have ever seen, showcasing the stunning beauty of our planet against the backdrop of space.

The balloon with a GoPro ascended ever higher till it burst. To get the footage back, the YouTuber “used a spot GPS tracker in the payload to track where the payload fell after the balloon burst." Then the YouTuber “retrieved it with the GoPro and its recorded footage inside."

Watch the video here:

The YouTuber followed all Federal Aviation Administration procedures and had informed the Flight Standards District Office of his planned launch in advance. The caption read, “All designed and launched by myself. All FAA regulations were followed, the FSDO was notified and given all the details, and a NOTAM [Notice to Air Missions] was even filed with Ft Worth center for balloon activity."

So, why was reason behind this experiment? BloonStu says, “Mostly, I had free time and needed a project/hobby to keep me engaged; secondly, space is neat."
