Woman Shares Scary Encounter With Uber Driver Masturbating in Car, Company Fires Him Later

Imagine concluding a tiring workday with a desire for a swift and quiet journey home. However, for a 26-year-old woman, this simple wish transformed into a nightmare when she alleged that an Uber driver masturbated behind the wheel while she was seated in the back of the car. Originating from Australia, Tayla Pimlott was on her way home from work in the city’s central business district at around 3:30 p.m. when something caught her attention from the backseat, prompting her to divert her attention from her phone.

To her astonishment, she claimed that her driver seemed to be engaging in self-pleasure while driving. “Usually when someone takes their pants down, they ruffle down a bit or something. I saw none of that, I just saw this subtle hand gesture,” she recounted to Yahoo News. “I could see clearly that he [the Uber driver] had his penis out and he was masturbating.”

Shocked by the sight, Tayla considered various actions, from contacting the authorities to confronting the driver or attempting to exit the moving vehicle. However, fearing for her safety, she refrained from any direct confrontation. Instead, she swiftly messaged her mother and boyfriend, informing them of the situation and sharing the live link for her Uber ride.

Upon reaching home, where her mother awaited her, she had to request the driver to unlock the doors.

“He fully turned around and looked at me and in the most creepiest voice I’ve ever heard he goes, ‘Thank you so much’,” she recounted. In a state of sheer horror, she managed a feeble response, “You’re welcome,” before hastily exiting the Uber.

Although the incident reportedly occurred last October, Tayla chose to share her ordeal now, amidst increased national attention on gendered harassment and violence.

Upon being notified of the incident, Uber promptly condemned the act and removed the driver from its platform.

“What’s been reported has no place in the Uber community or anywhere else,” Uber stated in a communication to Yahoo News. “As soon as we were notified of this report, we removed the driver partner’s access to the app immediately and permanently.”
