Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan gave a victory speech on Friday night and congratulated supporters for making the party victorious in the recently concluded Pakistan elections as independents backed by the PTI made major gains.
The independents backed by PTI made major gains but Imran Khan’s rival and Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif also gave a victory speech where he claimed that his PML-N has emerged as the single-largest party and said he would form a unity government that would have the same makeup like the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) coalition which ousted Imran Khan in a no-confidence vote in 2022.

“You have laid the foundation of real freedom by casting your votes yesterday and I congratulate you on the victory in the general elections 2024. I completely trusted you that you all will come out to cast votes and you have honoured my trust. Your massive turnout has surprised everyone,” Imran Khan said.
“The ‘London plan’ has failed because of your vote. No Pakistani will accept that and international media is also writing about that folly. Our independent sources told us that we were victorious on 150 National Assembly seats before the start of the rigging process. Currently, as per the data from Form-45, we are triumphant on over 170 National Assembly seats. Everyone has witnessed the power of your vote, now I urge you to show the ability to secure your vote,” he further added.
Nawaz Sharif, former prime minister, addressed party workers from the PML-N headquarters in Lahore’s Model Town and declared victory in a speech even though counting was on and neither party had emerged as a majority party.
PTI-backed independents have won 91 seats, the PML-N secured 69 seats, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) secured 52 seats, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement – Pakistan (MQM-P) secured 15 seats, the Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid) (PML-Q) secured 3 seats, the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) secured 2 seats, non-PTI backed independents secured 8 seats and other contenders won five seats.
But before Nawaz could reach the magic number of seats, he declared his party as the single-largest party and sent his brother, Shehbaz Sharif, also a former prime minister, to hold discussions with PPP, MQM-P and JUI-F to form the government.
“The PML-N is the largest single party in the country today after the elections. Our sole agenda is a prosperous Pakistan. At least 10 years are needed for bringing stability to the country. I have tasked Shehbaz Sharif to meet Fazlur Rehman, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, and Asif Ali Zardari,” Nawaz Sharif said, while addressing a charged crowd in Karachi.
