Former US President Bill Clinton allegedly barged into the Vanity Fair newsroom and “threatened” staffers to not go ahead with stories about sex trafficking allegations against “his good friend” Jeffrey Epstein, according to newly unsealed court documents.
This report comes as a second set of US court papers linked to the late sex offender and financier Jeffrey Epstein has been released. The 300 pages offer few blockbuster revelations, following a US federal judge’s order to unseal 900 pages a day earlier. The documents are part of the case against Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s imprisoned former girlfriend. Both sets of court records, unsealed on Wednesday and Thursday, reference high-profile people like the UK’s Prince Andrew and Clinton.
The claims regarding Clinton, disclosed in the most recent set of files linked to Epstein released Thursday night, were brought up by Epstein accuser Virginia Giuffre in a 2011 email exchange with Daily Mail scribe Sharon Churcher. “When I was doing some research into VF yesterday, it does concern me what they could want to write about me considering that B.Clinton walked into VF and threatened them not to write sex-trafficking articles about his good friend J.E,” Giuffre wrote in the email, according to the New York Post.

Incident ”did not happen’
The BBC reached out to the Clinton Foundation for comment. A spokesperson referred to media reports quoting former Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter, who stated that the alleged incident “categorically did not happen.” The latest Epstein media frenzy comes after a New York Judge last month ruled there was no legal justification to withhold the names of over 150 people mentioned in a 2015 defamation lawsuit filed by Giuffre against Maxwell.
Many names in the documents have already been publicly disclosed. But their inclusion does not necessarily imply wrongdoing related to Epstein. One previously detailed claim against Prince Andrew is that he sexually abused a minor in London, New York, and on Epstein’s island in the Virgin Islands, allegedly under the direction of Maxwell.
However, the Duke of York has denied these allegations. Similarly, Clinton is not accused of wrongdoing and there is no implication of any illegality. When contacted for comment by media outlets, his representatives referred to a statement he issued in 2019 saying he “knows nothing” about Epstein’s crimes.
