A 25-year-old Indian student died in a tragic road accident in the US state of Florida. Telangana native Guntipalli Sowmya, who was studying at Florida Atlantic University, was hit by a speeding car while crossing the road on May 26.
Sowmya succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Friends of the Indian student have started a fundraiser, urging financial support for Sowmya’s family. “Sowmya recently graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a Master’s degree, full of hope and ambition to support her family financially. Tragically, her promising future was cut short when she was struck by a speeding car in Florida, USA on May 26,” according to a GoFundMe page.
“Sowmya had just begun to embark on her professional journey, with dreams of easing her family’s financial burdens and repaying her student loans,” it added. Hailing from Yadagaripalle village, Telangana, Sowmya had been pursuing her master’s degree in the US for two years. “This campaign aims to honor Sowmya’s unfulfilled aspirations by helping her family during this difficult time. Your contribution will support her family financially during this crisis and help cover her outstanding student loans,” it read.
After completing her studies, she was in search of employment. Her parents, Koteshwara Rao and Balamani, were devastated by the news of their daughter’s untimely demise. They have appealed to the government for assistance in repatriating her body to Telangana. Sowmya’s father, a former CRPF personnel, spoke of her recent 25th birthday celebration. He currently runs a general store in Telangana.
