Kim Jong Un Assassination Ploy? US, South Korean Forces Held 'Decapitation Drills' in December
South Korean defence minister said South Korean forces and US Army Special Forces practised decapitation drills to prepare for the assassination of Kim Jong Un.

South Korean defence minister Shin Won-sik said taking out North Korean leader Kim Jong Un remains an option. According to a report by the New York Post, the South Korean authorities admitted that its military is conducting “decapitation drills” for the possible assassination of North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.

The admission from the South Korean military came after Kim pledged to boost North Korean nuclear arsenal, ramp up production of military drones and launch new spy satellites in 2024.

The newspaper pointed out that South Korean officials have not talked about the assassination of Kim Jong Un publicly for over half a decade. The admission from the North Korean defence minister came during an interview on MBN television, according to NK News.

The South Korean defence minister told the aforementioned news agencies that assassination drills and nuclear weapons deployment in the region are options that are being considered. He added that American forces also participated in the assassination drills.

“While it is difficult to openly discuss decapitation, the ROK-US special operation forces are conducting training. This training is for aerial manoeuvres, raids on key facilities and indoor mop-up,” the defence minister of South Korea was quoted as saying by the news agencies.

The South Korean joint chiefs of staff said the under-the-radar drills with US Army Special Forces were conducted last month.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said he plans to launch three more spy satellites in 2024 as one of the key policy decisions for next year at a year-end party meeting, the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said.

“The United States, which has long caused and worsened political instability on the Korean peninsula, continues to pose various types of military threat to our country even as the year is coming to an end,” Kim said.

“We must respond quickly to a possible nuclear crisis and continue to accelerate preparations to pacify the entire territory of South Korea by mobilising all physical means and forces, including nuclear force, in case of emergency,” he said.

Kim said American deployments of nuclear assets and drills in the region have made South Korea a “forward military base and nuclear arsenal” for America.

South Korea responded by saying that Kim’s regime will end in the hands of the US- Korean coalition.

South Korea last publicly discussed assassination of Kim Jong Un in 2017 when former South Korean defence minister Song Young-moo announced plans to establish the “decapitation unit”. These units would specialise in the elimination of North Korean leaders.
