China's BYD Unveils Its First Supercar Yangwang U9, Check Features
BYD Auto debuts Yangwang U9, its first battery-operated supercar, challenging premium offerings with a top speed of 309.19 kmph and cutting-edge tech.

BYD Auto, the world’s largest electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, has rolled out its first-ever battery-operated supercar– Yangwang U9.

The car has been launched under the China-based company’s high-end sub-brand and is priced at 1.68 million yuan (approximately Rs 2 crore).

Upon its arrival in the market, the BYD Yangwang U9 is tipped to give tough competition to some premium offerings by the Italian manufacturers– Ferrari and Lamborghini.

Speaking at the launch event, Wang Chuanfu, the founder, chairman and CEO of BYD Auto, labelled the Yamwang U19 as a “leader in our automobile segment.” “It will provide a driving experience that is full of safety, excellent performance and maximum satisfaction, to our customers,” he said, as quoted by HT Auto.

The BYD Yangwang U9 comes with cutting-edge technology, offering top-notch on-road performance. Despite being an all-electric vehicle, it will be able to clock a top speed of 309.19 kmph. The Yangwang U9 is powered by a 12-cylinder engine, which comes with as many as four eclectic motors.

Each of these motors is capable of producing a maximum power of 240 kW, meaning the powertrain will offer a combined peak power of 960 kW. Thanks to its high-power engine, the Yangwang U9 can be accelerated from zero to 100 kmph in just 2.36 seconds.

The Shenzhen-headquartered EV maker claims that the initial testing of the Yangwang U9 was done inside a thermal management system that will help the car deliver the best performance even in high temperatures. The EV supercar comes with BYD’s in-house Blade Battery technology, which not only helps in cooling down the engine faster but also enables ultra-fast charging up to 500 kW.

The Yangwang U9 is also equipped with a dual charging feature. Courtesy of its two charging points, the battery can be charged from 30 per cent to 80 per cent in just ten minutes. The four-wheeler offers a range of up to 450 km on a single charge.

About its design and styling elements, the Yangwang U9 comes with a futuristic exterior. It is a two-seater car and has a sharp face featuring minimalistic LED headlamps and a large front grille. BYD Auto will make the car available first in the local market before launching it in other countries across the globe.
