Tesla CEO Elon Musk Reveals New Picture of Upcoming Model Y All-Electric Compact SUV
The Tesla Model Y is expected to be officially unveiled in March 2019, with production slated for 2020.

At the company's shareholder meeting this week, Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, revealed an exclusive new picture of the firm's upcoming compact SUV, the Model Y, since picked up by the Electrek website.

This may be the second image revealed by the American car-maker of its upcoming SUV, but it still doesn't give much away. The shot is, however, taken at a slightly different angle. The Tesla Model Y will offer a competitive, lower-cost alternative to the Model X, echoing the structure of the manufacturer's sedan line, with the Model 3 and the Model S. The addition of a Model Y also makes the car names in Tesla's range spell "S3XY."

The two Model Y photos currently in the wild are far too vague to give much away -- other than the fact that the car doesn't look to have any exterior wing mirrors. Indeed, Tesla could use exterior cameras to send images to small screens inside the vehicle, exactly like Audi's e-tron, a future direct rival for the Model X.

Otherwise, the Model Y is known to be based on the Model 3 platform and is expected to have Falcon-wing doors, like the Model X. Innovation is also expected on the vehicle battery.

The Tesla Model Y is expected to be officially unveiled in March 2019, with production slated for 2020.
