Mkt ends weak: IT, banking top losers
The markets ended the day in red despite strong Asian cues. IT stocks were among the top losers on the indices.

New Delhi: The markets ended the day in red off day's high despite some strong Asian cues. IT stocks were among the top losers on the indices followed by banking stocks. IT socks put up an unconvincing show on account of dollar becoming cheaper than Rs 41.

Mid caps and small caps did not do a whole lot and ended lower giving markets a negative breadth. However, the oil & gas stocks pivotals provided support at lower levels. In terms of volume also it was on the lower side as compared to Friday due to lack of buying interest.

Sensex closed down 55.02 points or 0.39 per cent at 13879.25, and the Nifty down 6.20 points or 0.15 per cent at 4111.15.

About 1156 shares have advanced, 1381 shares declined, and 59 shares are unchanged. Top gainers on the Sensex were Ranbaxy Labs, Hero Honda, Reliance, BPCL, HPCL and HDFC.

Top losers on the Sensex are Wipro, PNB, Dr Reddy's, Hindalco, Infosys and HCL Tech. Most active shares on BSE were ICRA at Rs 961.00, Indiabulls at Rs 589.00 and Indiabulls Real at Rs 365.45.

The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 7,020.11 down 0.2 per cent. The BSE Midcap Index ended at 5,844.36 down 0.3 per cent.

The BSE FMCG Index closed flat at 1,812.40. Colgate, Nirma, United Spirits, P&G closed in red. The BSE Metal Index was down 0.5% to close at 9,946.27. JindalStainless, Guj NRE Coke, Hind Zinc, Hindalco, Sesa Goa were among the losers.
