The rupee had slid 8 paise to end at 61.83 on Friday due to month-end dollar demand from importers and some banks.
Mumbai: The rupee lost 8 paise to Rs 61.91 against the dollar in early trade on Monday on the Interbank Foreign Exchange due to appreciation of the US currency overseas.
Sustained demand for the dollar from importers also weighed on the local currency but a higher opening in the domestic equity market limited the rupee's losses, forex dealers said.

Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex rose by 209 points, or 0.71 per cent, at 29,570.50 in early trade today.
