Sensex recovers after morning plunge
The market ended firm in late trade. The Sensex closed up over 60 points. The Nifty ended up over 10 points. The CNX Midcap also closed up over 20 points.

Mumbai: The markets recovered on last minute buying. The bounce back was largely lead by cement and banking sector stocks.

The Sensex closed up 64.69 points or 0.62 per cent at 10573.54. It touched an intraday high of 10593.08 and an intraday low of 10376.54.

The Nifty closed up 12.40 points or 0.40 per cent at 3129.10. It touched an intraday high of 3132.65 and an intraday low of 3069.85.

The CNX Midcap Index closed up 20.05 points or 0.44 per cent at 4584.10. It touched an intraday high of 4586.55 and an intraday low of 4509.55.

The BSE Small Cap Index closed up 13.88 points or 0.22 per cent at 6306.35. The BSE Midcap Index closed up 24.50 points or 0.49 per cent at 4987.07.

Gujarat Ambuja Cements, ACC, Grasim, ABB and Dr Reddy’s Labs were the biggest index gainers.

Ranbaxy Labs, Tata Tea, Bharti Tele, Hero Honda and Maruti were the biggest index losers.

The total market turnover today was at Rs 54,036.95 crore.

The BSE IT Index closed up 1.09% at 3735.49 amid gains in i-flex Solutions, Moser Baer, Infosys, Satyam, Wipro, and HCL Info.

Banking stocks like Kotak Mahindra, ICICI Bank, SBI, Canara Bank and PNB also firmed up. The BSE Bankex closed up 1.04 per cent at 5205.27.

Metal stocks like JSW Steel, Jindal Stainless, Nalco, Tata Steel, Hindustan Zinc and Jindal Saw also ended in the green. The BSE Metal Index closed up 0.81 per cent at 7600.64.

Buying was also seen in capital goods, oil and select FMCG stocks.

The BSE Capital Goods Index closed up 0.53 per cent at 7932.89. The BSE Oil & Gas Index closed up 0.54 per cent at 4485.05. The BSE FMCG Index closed up 0.14 per cent at 1991.98.

However, auto stocks like Amtek Auto, MICO, Asahi India, Hero Honda, Tube Investment, Maruti, M&M and Exide Industries lost ground. The BSE Auto Index closed down 0.80 per cent at 5198.79.

Selling was also seen in some consumer durables and pharma stocks. The BSE Consumer Durables Index closed down 0.64 per cent at 3168.73. The BSE Healthcare Index closed down 0.38 per cent at 3596.30.
