The Netherlands registered a statement win over Nepal at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas, USA in their Group D encounter in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 fixture on Tuesday.
The Dutch bundled out the Nepalese unit for 106 runs as Tim Pringle and Logan Van Beek picked up a three-fer each, before chasing down the target with 6 wickets and 8 balls to spare.
The Netherlands skipper Scott Edwards won the toss and opted to field first against Nepal as the decision proved dividends early on. The Dutch unit struck early through Pringle as he dismissed Aasif Sheikh in the second over for his first wicket. Van Beek joined the party as he sent Kushal Bhurtel back to the hut for 7 runs shortly after.
Anil Kumar Sah added 11 runs before being dismissed by Pringle, before Kushal Malla fell prey to Paul Van Meekeren. Dipendra Singh Airee was sent back cheaply after having score just a single run by Bas de Leede, before van Meekeren doubled his tally with the dismissal of Sompal Kami for a duck.
Nepal skipper Rohit Paudel, who played the lone-ranger innings for his side added 32 runs off 35 balls before falling to Pringle, as the spinner completed his three-wicket haul.
Karan KC, who chipped in with 17 runs off 12 deliveries, was the next to go as Leede added to his kitty, before Gulshan Jha was dismissed by Van Beek for 14 runs. The experienced Dutch quick completed his three-fer with the dismissal of Abhinash Bohara as he caught him off his own bowling to wrap up the Nepal innings.
Nepal made early inroads in their defence as Sompal Kami removed the promising youngster Michael Levitt for just a single run in the second over before Vikram Singh and Max O’Dowd steadied the chase for the Dutch.
Singh was removed for 22 runs as Sybrand Engelbrecht came out to replace his fallen teammate, but was himself dismissed for 14 runs off 16 deliveries.
Skipper Edwards could not impact the chase much with his willow either as he was dismissed for 5 runs in 8 deliveries.
Despite the struggle in the middle overs, the Dutch were dragged across the line by the brilliance of O’Dowd, who saved the orange any blushes in the opening game with his unbeaten 54-run knock that helped his side to victory.
