Every youth dreams of studying at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). To fulfil this dream, one has to pass the JEE Main and Advanced exams. Even if one succeeds in passing it, it has been seen many times that due to financial problems, difficulties in studying from here start increasing.
Also, there remains a doubt whether one will be able to complete their studies at IIT or not. Recently, a student named Bonila Aryan Roshan has been going through similar difficulties.
According to reports, the gate of IIT-Tirupati opened on August 1. As soon as this gate opens, Bonila Aryan Roshan will be in the queue of students going to the Chemical Engineering department. Still, Roshan is not very happy. According to a report by TOI, Roshan says, “I am not sure whether I will be able to complete my four years of engineering or not.”
Roshan lives in Telangana’s Siddipet area, where his mother works as a daily wage worker for Rs 200. Roshan (Bonila Aryan Roshan) placed 2406th (SC category) in the JEE test. Paying the IIT fees is becoming difficult for his family. The family has somehow raised Rs 50,000 to pay Roshan’s IIT fees.
18-year-old Roshan says that with this, “I will be able to complete my first semester. I don’t know how I will bear the expenses of my studies after this.” He lost his father at an early age.
Roshan’s story is a reality for many students from marginalized communities in Telangana. While IITs waive the Rs 1 lakh tuition price for SC/ST applicants, they are still required to pay additional expenditures including lodging, food, and registration fees, which may range from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.5 lakh each year. Students facing financial difficulties sometimes have to sell their little belongings or rely on the goodwill of donors.
IIT JEE is a national-level engineering entrance exam which includes two stages: JEE Main and JEE Advanced. JEE Main is a screening exam to select the candidates who will be eligible to appear for JEE Advanced, which will serve as the final exam to select candidates for admission into prestigious IITs.
