The Lok Sabha elections 2024 have ended and the results brought joy to many across the country, be it politicians or the public. One of the unexpected winners of the elections is Ummeda Ram Beniwal, a Congress MP from Rajasthan. Know how the new MP came a long way from being a constable, in his success story.

As per the reports, Ummeda Ram Beniwal defeated Ravindra Singh Bhati, an independent candidate with a margin of one lakh votes. The two were competing for the seat of Jaisalmer-Barmer, in Rajasthan.

In 2005, Ummeda Ram Beniwal was posted as a constable in Police, at the Delhi Parliament Street Police Station. He witnessed all the big parliamentarians coming and going regularly. According to the information given, he did not want to continue with his current job. So, he decided to leave the job and went back to Barmer. Back in Barmer, he ventured into the handicrafts business and it became a big success. Thanks to his business he was able to amass incredible wealth.

He started his career in politics after his family advised him to contest for the village’s sarpanch. Since the seats were reserved for women. In an interview, he recalled, “After that, my wife Pushpa Devi contested and won the election. That was the beginning of my political career.”

Before becoming a member of the Congress party, he was associated with the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party since 2018. After 19 years of leaving his job as a constable, the MP will now get to pass the same route he was posted on: as an MP himself.

Ummeda Ram Beniwal is a resident of Balotra, Rajasthan. He passed his high school in 1993. In 1995, he qualified for his intermediate exam and took various examinations, becoming a constable and working in that post for the next decade. Alongside that, the new MP then completed his graduation in BA from the Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University (MSDU), in Ajmer.
