Karnataka Govt School Students Made to Clean Toilets, Do Gardening at Principal's Residence

In yet another case of student exploitation, students of Maulana Azad government school in Kalaburgi were allegedly made to clean school toilets and even gardening work at the Principal’s residence.

The Principal of Maulana Azad Model English Medium School has been accused of indulging in this act over the last year. The Maulana Azad Model schools’ were started by the Karnataka govt under the Directorate of Minorities across Karnataka

The father of a boy from the same school wrote a complaint letter to the Roza police station seeking a thorough investigation and immediate action against the exploitation of the students. According to the complaint, the Principal stated that there was not enough manpower in the cleaning department. The police have promised to look into the matter and take action.

This is only one of the numerous incidents of this kind that the state of Karnataka has revealed in the last few months. District Block Education Officer filed a report in December 2023 after a video purportedly showed children in Karnataka education minister Madhu Bangarappa’s home district of Shivamogga cleaning toilets went viral on social media. It was rumoured that headmaster Shankarappa and other educators had made students clean restrooms.

Similarly, the headmistress of a government school in Bengaluru was taken into custody by the Karnataka Police on December 23 for reportedly forcing the students to clean the school’s restrooms. There were reports that students at Bengaluru North’s Andrahalli Government School were allegedly forced into scrubbing down restroom walls and cleaning toilets. Videos of the upsetting occurrence went viral on social media, drawing attention to the situation and causing concerned authorities to step in.
