In a recent update, the Ministry of External Affairs disclosed the names of 3,042 fraudulent agents involved in deceiving individuals with promises of jobs abroad. This information is now available on the ‘eMigrate’ portal. While Punjab and Gujarat are often noted for their youth aspiring to work abroad, another state has surpassed them in this trend, revealing a concerning concentration of fraudulent agents operating there.
Among the states with the highest number of fake agents, Andhra Pradesh leads with 498 names identified. Surprisingly, Uttar Pradesh ranks second with 418 fraudulent agents listed. These figures, up to June 2024, reflect complaints lodged by affected migrants or their relatives, prompting investigations by state police, along with Indian Missions and Foreign Situation Centres.
To prevent future scams, the Ministry of External Affairs regularly updates the list of fake agents on the e-Migrate portal, with 3,042 names listed as of June 2024. Additional resources, including the MADAD, CPGAMS, and eMigrate portals, are available to assist Indians seeking employment or education abroad. Migrants can also register complaints through a dedicated helpline.
