Barcelona's seven-match winning streak came to an end after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Valencia on Saturday night at the Estadio Mestalla. Luis Suarez's 59th minute goal was canceled out by a late Santi Mina strike to give the home side a well deserved point.
Inside the first seven minutes Barcelona had two clear-cut chances to open the scoring, as Lionel Messi smashed a Neymar cross above the bar and then the Brazilian missed a chance from the left, also sending a shot above the crossbar.
Suarez and Barcelona remained steadfast in their pursuit of a goal, and they would finally get it through some brilliant work from the former Liverpool man. Suarez outraced and outmuscled the Valencia defense before slotting in past Jaume to give Barcelona a 1-0 lead.
A darting 74th minute run from Neymar nearly led to a second, but the Brazilian curled his shot just wide.
With the minutes left on the clock and new manager Gary Neville watching from the stands, Valencia tried to force an equalizer.
First, Rodrigo De Paul forced a save out of Bravo in the 79th minute but then seven minutes later Valenica did find the back of net to pull level thanks to Santi Min.
Neville will officially take charge of Los Che next week following his introduction earlier in the week.
