We’ve known him for years as Mr McDreamy from Grey’s Anatomy. And now, Patrick Dempsey will be known as People’s 2023 Sexiest Man Alive. On Wednesday, People magazine announced that Demspsey is this year’s Sexiest Man Alive and the actor said that he was shocked to learn the news but the timing of the honour was perfect. “I was completely shocked, and then I started laughing, like, this is a joke, right? I’ve always been the bridesmaid!” he said.
“I’d completely forgotten about it and never even contemplated being in this position. So my ego is good,” he said. “I’m glad it’s happening at this point in my life. It’s nice to have the recognition, and certainly my ego takes a little bump, but it gives me the platform to use it for something positive,” Dempsey added.
The Grey’s Anatomy star, who is also a motorsports racing driver, appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live where the announcement was made.

However, not everyone was impressed with the choice. They took to X, previously known as Twitter, and objected the choice. “There are more handsome and sexy men than him, maybe there are pointers though. But I would like to know the pointers they use in judging this,” a social media user wrote. “I think you accidentally posted a tweet from 2005,” added another. Many also felt Pedro Pascal deserved the title.
