With the release of Pokemon Legends: Arceus came an evolution for Basculin: the cool Water/Ghost type Basculegion. But how exactly do you get a Basculegion? It's not as straightforward as simply getting your Basculin to a particular level. The key to evolving Basculin into Basculegion is to ensure the Pokemon takes a certain amount of recoil damage. In this article we'll explain exactly how Basculin evolves into Basculegion and give some helpful tips along the way.

Things You Should Know

Basculin can be caught in Tranquility Cove, Ilsespy Shore, Fabled Spring, Lake Acuity, and Heart's Crag, but Basculin from the last 3 areas are preferred.
Your Basculin must take around 294 points of recoil damage in order to evolve into Basculegion.
Battle Pokemon that Basculin is super effective against and don't forget to heal up after each battle, as it won't count if your Basculin faints.

Catch a Basculin if you don't have one already. Basculin can be caught in Tranquility Cove, Ilsespy Shore, Fabled Spring, Lake Acuity, or Heart's Crag. It's recommended to catch a Basculin from Fabled Spring, Lake Acuity, or Heart's Crag if you have access to those areas, because the Basculin you catch will know both moves required for it to evolve. If you want a pink and green Basculegion, you should catch a male Basculin. If you want a white and green Basculegion, you should catch a female Basculin. Basculegion has two forms based on the gender of the Basculin that was evolved.

Level up your Basculin until it knows Wave Crash and/or Double-Edge. In order to evolve, Basculin must do 294 points of recoil damage to itself without fainting. Wave Crash (which Basculin learns at level 34) and Double-Edge (which Basculin learns at level 43) both cause recoil damage. You don't have to do this all in one battle, and it is ideal to heal Basculin after each battle to avoid having it faint. If your Basculin is a high enough level to know Wave Crash or Double-Edge but it's not in its moveset, you can select Change move from the Pokemon's menu to edit its moveset.

Battle your Basculin against other Pokemon. Make sure to use Wave Crash and Double-Edge so you can start tallying up recoil damage. Try to battle pokemon that Basculin is super effective against. Water is super effective against Fire, Ground, and Rock. This will ensure the battles end quickly.

While most sources say that Basculin will evolve into Basculegion once it's taken 294 points of recoil damage, some users state that it took a little less or a little more. Simply use your Basculin in battle until you get the evolution notice.
