Single Seedling
Cut the milk carton in half or even three quarters the way to the top. Poke a few small drainage holes in the base of the carton.
Fill with seedling soil. Leave a little space free at the top of the carton.
Plant the seeds or seedling into the carton. Try to keep it to one to seeds or seedlings per carton.
Keep watered regularly.
Transplant the plant when the seedling is strong enough.
Several seedlings per carton
Tape up the lid end of the milk carton. This won't need to be done if you have used the screw off plastic lid; simply replace the cap for this purpose.
Cut out a rectangular shape on one side of the milk carton. Use scissors or a craft knife.
Poke a few small drainage holes in the base of the carton.
Put the carton on one side, with the cut side facing the top. Fill with appropriate seedling potting soil.
Plant seedlings along the length of the carton.
