New Delhi: NHRC will on Monday decide the course of action against Kalawati Saran hospital in New Delhi after an RTI reply stated that over 10,000 children have died there in last five years.
"A complaint has been filed with the NHRC in this regard. The Commission will take a decision on its next course of action on Monday," NHRC's Joint Registrar AK Parashar said. The information was obtained by one Rajhans Bansal, a resident of Rohini in Delhi, who filed an RTI application seeking details of the numbers of children who died in the government hospital in last five years.
As per the information furnished by the hospital, a total of 10,081 children have died in the Kalawati Saran hospital in last five years. Though no information was provided by the hospital on reasons behind these deaths, but officials said that most of them are brought there in critical condition.
The RTI reply also claimed that no child has died in the hospital because of malfunctioning of the ventilator. The information shared by the hospital revealed that maximum number of 2,713 children died in 2008, followed by 2,499 in 2009 and 2,144 in 2010. This year from January till July, 943 children have died in the hospital.
