KOCHI: The CBI on Thursday arrested three Customs officials at the Kochi international airport for allegedly facilitating the smuggling of electronic goods. The arrested are superintendent K C S Prasanth, preventive officer D S Pillai and Prasanna Kumar. They were arrested on the basis of a statement given by an accused who was arrested in a case earlier. The CBI officials said that the three officials assisted the accused to smuggle electronic goods worth Rs 1.3 crore from Singapore to Kochi. The CBI had arrested five persons involved in the smuggling racket. Last year, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence(DRI) had foiled a smuggling attempt of the racket and arrested five persons including the owner of an electronic shop. The case was later handed over to the CBI as the involvement of the Customs officials was suspected. The arrested officials were presented before the CBI Court and were remanded in the CBI custody for two days.
