3 Navy Officials Injured in Cylinder Blast on Board INS Nireekshak
The mishap took place at INS Nireekshak which is a diving support vessel.

One Indian Navy diver and two sailors were injured when a diving gas cylinder exploded on April 16 near Thiruvananthapuram. The mishap took place at INS Nireekshak which is a diving support vessel.

The 12-inch diving bail out cylinder which is mounted on the helmet exploded when it was being charged.

While an inquiry has been ordered, the Navy called it a "freak accident which has never happened in the past". The diver had to get his right leg amputated above the knee.

Two other sailors suffered splinter injuries on stomach and leg. All the injured were taken to MH Trivandrum as the ship was off Virginian en route to Mumbai from Vishakhapatnam.

Naval officials say all injured are stable and have been shifted to Mumbai.
